Hot on the Trail:
Durban’s harbor has become the battleground in the relentless war against drug trafficking, and the city’s valiant police force is taking no prisoners. Clad in blue, these dedicated officers are on a mission to dismantle the operations of international crime syndicates deeply entwined in the illicit drug trade.
In their most recent triumph, our fearless men and women in uniform seized a jaw-dropping R151 million worth of cocaine. Picture this: a Monday that won’t soon be forgotten—December 4, 2023—the day our vigilant officers, fueled by intelligence, tracked a vessel from Brazil and cracked open a container at a cold storage facility. What did they find? 433 blocks of cocaine cunningly concealed within meat boxes.

No arrests have been made yet, but fear not; the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) has taken the reins, promising a thorough inquiry into this latest coup.
This isn’t the first rodeo for our crime-fighting heroes. This marks the third colossal drug bust in a mere two months at Durban’s harbor. Just a couple of months ago, they laid their hands on another shipment—cocaine valued at a whopping R150 million.
And in the midst of this ongoing battle, the National Commissioner of the SAPS, General Fannie Masemola, held a strategic meeting with Brazilian Federal Police Chief Andrei Passos RODRIGUES at the Interpol Annual General Meeting in Vienna last week. Discussions centered on the relentless flow of drugs from Brazilian ports into South Africa. The outcome? A commitment to elevate cooperation, a move that has already yielded significant successes in the fight against drugs and international crime syndicates.

Durban’s police force is undeniably turning up the heat in the fight against drug trafficking, and their recent triumphs are sending shockwaves through the criminal underworld. The blue force remains unwavering in their dedication to making our streets safer and drug-free!
